How we choose
We name one pick per category, chosen by people who live in and know Bol, and every business we pick is run by a local family who live on Brač all year round. Each category has a clear test, and every pick must also pass five checks: locally owned, open in season, good recent reviews, a direct way to book or visit, and facts we can check. We re-check every pick each spring and show the date on its page. No business pays to be listed.
The test for each category
Every category starts with what a place must offer to qualify. For villas, for example: a whole house for one group, a sea view, outdoor space, and booked direct with the owner. You will find the test on each category page, under "How we chose".
Every pick is a local family business
Every business we recommend is owned and run by a local family who live on Brač all year round, not only in summer. When you stay, eat, rent or book a trip with them, your money stays on the island. It pays local wages, keeps family businesses going from one generation to the next, and helps people stay on Brač through the winter instead of leaving for the mainland. Look for the Local family business badge on every pick.
Five checks for every pick
- Locally owned by a family who live on the island all year.
- Open in season, with reliable hours.
- Good recent reviews from guests.
- A direct way to book or visit: its own website, phone or email.
- Facts we can check: prices, times and contacts come from the business's own website where it has one, and every pick page names its source and the date we checked.
Photos of a business come from its own website and carry its name.
One pick per category
We name one place per category, the one we would send a friend to. Where a second choice really helps, we show two side by side rather than ranking them: windsurfing and bikes have one centre in Bol and one towards Murvica, and boat trips have a full day and a quieter day.
Re-checks and changes
We re-check every pick each spring before the season. If a pick closes, changes owner or slips, we take it off and say so. Every pick page shows the date of its last check.
Payments and connections
Two of our picks belong to the family behind Best of Bol: Apartments Kristian for apartments and Villa Bila for villas. Both say so on their pages and wherever they appear, and both are held to the same test and the same five checks as every other pick.
No business pays to be listed, pays a commission on bookings, or pays us anything else. Our picks are not for sale.
