Bol guide
Vidova gora
Vidova gora, 778 m, is the highest peak of any Adriatic island and rises straight behind Bol. You can hike up from town on a steep marked trail, which takes most walkers two to three hours, or drive most of the way on the road from the inland side of Brač. From the top you look straight down on Zlatni rat and across to Hvar.

The view
The summit sits on the edge of a steep slope, so the whole of Bol, the long curve of the coast and the white point of Zlatni rat lie directly below you, with Hvar across the channel. On clear days you can see further islands out to sea. The name comes from St Vitus (Sveti Vid), whose small church once stood on the summit; its remains are still there.
Hiking up from Bol
A marked trail climbs from the upper edge of Bol through pine woods and then open rocky ground. It gains almost the full 778 m, so it is steep and there is little shade higher up. Most walkers take two to three hours up and a little less down.
- Start early in summer: by mid-morning the slope is in full sun.
- Take at least two litres of water per person. Do not count on finding water on the way.
- Wear proper shoes. The path is stony and loose in places.
- Tell someone your plan and check the weather. The wind on top can be strong even when the beach is calm.
Our step-by-step route from Bol to Vidova gora has every turn, the distances and heights on the way, and the loop back through Murvica.
Driving or cycling up
A road reaches the summit area from the inland side of the island, off the road between Nerežišća and Bol, so you can drive up and walk the last few minutes. Cyclists ride it as a long climb, and e-bikes make it possible for most people.
