The crossing
Car ferries to Supetar leave from Split's ferry port. Buy your ticket online or at the port, then join the queue for the Supetar lane. Cars board in the order they arrive, so in July and August, and above all on Saturdays, arrive well before departure.
This line has no reservations. On a summer Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the Makarska to Sumartin ferry, where your ticket reserves a place, is often the better choice.
The drive to Bol
From Supetar, the road climbs inland across the island and then winds down the south side to Bol, with views over the Hvar channel as you descend. Fill up with fuel before you leave the north coast if you are low.
Watch your sat-nav near Bol. Do not follow it onto the unfinished road via Vela Farska (4x4 only), or into Put Oleandra, a narrow dead end onto the promenade near Zlatni rat. Driving to Bol.
Without a car
Foot passengers can take this ferry and then the island bus from Supetar to Bol, but the direct catamaran is quicker.
